This is Jamaica second longest river. It runs 71km (44miles) from the cockpit country in trelawny to the charming seaside town of Black River in the south. In the 18th century the river was used to transport sugar and rum. Now it is a a haven for marine birds , Go for a morning or afternoon trip along the Black River’s 30km (18.5miles). The dark, mysterious waters of the Black River ( named after it’s black peat subsoil ) are home to some 300 crocodiles. At times you’ll see them sunning themselves on the banks of the river, pert shaded by contorted mangroves. You’ll get a closer look when the safari captain driving your boat calls them to the side of his boat and kiss them and tickles their chins.
